'POWER OF MUSIC'
review by Bryan Allen
(Dance News, England)
Dancers cannot really say there is a lack of first class music to accompany their competitive or pleasure dancing. In the main all the CDs released in these past years have been good, however some possess that little extra that makes them more personally satisfying. The latest to reach has the title DANCE NIGHT COLLECTION which has 31 tracks of excellent music from Ross Mitchell His Band And Singers. All Ballroom and Latin style dancers will be delighted with it but also Sequence Dancers will enjoy it for the arrangements are all specially done with their needs in mind.
The reference number is DLD 1100.
There are six brand new recordings among the thirty one tracks so you will find many old favourites to enjoy plus these quite outstanding new items. The Quickstep "'T AIN'T WHAT YOU DO" will be a certain favourite with competitors for it just helps you swing and fly around the floor. In addition the advice given by the words is a great message for all dancers trying to impress the judges! Listen to the words for you cannot have better advise to aid your efforts. Two new Foxtrots, first an attractive "ONCE IN A WHILE" arrangement followed by what I feel is an ideal featured sound for Foxtrot dancing of Piano, Bass and Drums for "MY FUNNY VALENTINE". I thought this to be the best Foxtrot track I have heard for many a long time. The Cha Cha Cha "IN THESE SHOES" is another sure fire and certain winner, loads of rhythm and a super arrangement. The other new recordings are both Rumbas, "WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW" and " OUT OF REACH" both excellent.
Ross Mitchell is always reliable in both the sound of the music and the tempo.
There are all ten main rhythms covered plus two Mambos tracks, both of which will be popular.
I congratulate Ross Mitchell on this, his latest CD.
I am confident that it will prove to be very successful
